JAKARTA – The rupiah exchange rate this morning, Tuesday (7/4), stood at IDR 17,080 per US dollar, weakening by 45 points or 0.26% compared with the previous session.

Most Asian currencies also depreciated. The Malaysian ringgit slipped 0.01%, the Singapore dollar fell 0.19%, the South Korean won declined 0.20%, and the Japanese yen dropped 0.14%.

Meanwhile, the Hong Kong dollar edged up 0.01%, while data for the Chinese yuan was not yet available, according to CNN Indonesia.

A similar trend was observed among major developed market currencies, most of which were in negative territory.

The euro weakened 0.14%, sterling fell 0.15%, and the Swiss franc dropped 0.23%. The Australian dollar declined 0.26%, while the Canadian dollar slipped 0.14%.

Currency analyst at Doo Financial Futures, Lukman Leong, said the rupiah’s depreciation was driven by concerns over escalating conflict in the Middle East, particularly following remarks by Donald Trump.

“Trump reiterated that the US would bomb Iran’s power plants and bridges on Tuesday,” Lukman told CNN Indonesia.com.

For today, Lukman expects the rupiah to move in the range of IDR 17,000–IDR 17,100 per US dollar.

This aligns with the strengthening of the US Dollar Index (DXY). Based on data from IDNFinancials.com, the index rose 0.05% to 100.04 as of 12:10 PM WIB, having earlier touched 100.15 at 9:07 AM WIB. (DK/ZH)
